Marcia analyzes the deep connections we humans have with Killer Whales, the intelligent and kindred species we call Orcas. Our decisions to keep these unique and social beings in concrete tanks have deeply affected not only their lives, but ours as well. She explores some of our past interactions, rescue efforts, and movements to save both wild and currently captive Orcas and questions how we as a species can forge a better future for them and, ultimately, ourselves.

Events she shares come from not only her own experiences as someone who knew Tokitae, but also stories from others who were drawn to Toki in a deep, spiritual and emotional sense. Some people experienced life changing dreams, communications, visions, and a profound understanding, not only of Tokitae but of Orcas as a whole.

She invokes us to consider that perhaps another species may be gifted with faculties most of us seem to lack. Her wish is to bestow upon these creatures—and ultimately ourselves—the true respect, dignity, and reverence every being deserves.
