The following are messages we received from families who requested assistance with school supplies this year. Because of our community's incredible support, we were able to help over 570 local students get the school supplies they need for the 2026-27 school year.

"The adopt a student program helped this year. My daughter is left handed so the lefty spiral notebook she received was great and she got a scientific graphing calculator that will follow her to college.
If this program didn't exist she would have had no new supplies this year. It really helped my family and took that stress away and allowed her to get a new outfit for the first day of school which really helps start the new year feeling confident and sets the tone for the year. She's going to be able to be successful and able to focus on learning now that she has the supplies needed to have a great productive year. I truly don't know if I can put into words how incredibly thankful I am to Jerrol's and to every single person who donated school supplies for my three children.
When I filled out the application, I knew I might have been too late and honestly wasn't sure if we would receive anything. With school starting the very next day, I was stressed and worried because I only had a few supplies I had managed to collect over time for my kids.
Then I received a call from Jerrol's letting me know that our school supplies were ready to be picked up.
I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Knowing that people in our community chose my children and spent their own money to make sure they had what they needed for school means more to me than I could ever properly express. What may have felt like simply buying some school supplies to someone else lifted such a huge weight off my shoulders and made a difference for our entire family.
To everyone who donated, and to Jerrol's for organizing this and making it possible, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You gave my children more than school supplies—you gave this mom some much-needed hope and reminded me that even in a world that can sometimes feel so divided and uncertain, there is still so much love, generosity, and kindness around us.

I'm a single mom to a high-needs, neurodivergent child. This summer, we learned that I am terminally ill. We spent my kid's summer vacation in and out of the ER, doctor's appointments here and in Seattle, and with me on orders for bedrest most of the time when I was well enough to be home. It took every ounce of energy and grit and determination I had to manage to take care of my kid through it all, but I somehow scraped together enough of myself to keep him fed, clean, housed, dressed, loved, and attended. By the end of the day, absolutely everything I had in me was spent.
I cried so many tears after bedtime while viscerally feeling all the other ways I told myself I was failing him, all the normal things I couldn't do for or with him, couldn't facilitate him experiencing. Things as simple and taken for granted as chasing him around or playing ball in the back yard--or going back-to-school shopping--kept me up for hours at night. None of it has been fair to him, and I am humbled by the way he has carried himself with grace far beyond his years.
Nobody plans for this to happen, and I was absolutely gutted, over and over again, all day everyday. But there were times that the tears slowed because I knew that my kid was going to have the things he needed to be prepared to start a new school year, even if he didn't get to pick them out, even if I didn't get to go buy them for him. I kept telling myself that getting him signed up for Adopt-a-Student WAS me taking care of his needs, and it got me through some really dark nights.
When we went to Jerrol's to pick up his supplies, I apologized to him because I knew the backpack wasn't going to be something with his favorite characters on it that he would have picked out for himself, but we needed to remember to be grateful for these gifts and say "thank you," even if we felt a little disappointed on the inside. But when they brought out his backpack, he absolutely lit up and said, "It's okay, Mommy! It's my favorite color! You don't have to cry anymore because everything's going to be okay."
So THANK YOU for the generosity that let my seven year old believe that everything is going to be okay again after everything he's been through. I cannot convey with words how very much that means to us at a time like this. The impact of your kindness reaches so much farther than you know. For us, at least, it has made all the difference in the world.
