Directions
Soup Mix includes 2 packets Spice and Vegetable Base
To prepare, you will need:
1 cups V-8 juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
In 3 quart saucepan add 3 1/4 cups water, the complete soup packet and the chopped tomatoes. Cover and simmer until lentils are tender and rice is cooked, about 1 hour. Stir occasionally to keep from scorching. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve.
Daniel Fast Cooking Variations: Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice, and/or 1 cup of your favorite fresh vegetable.
Non-Daniel Fast Cooking Variations: Add your choice of browned ground beef, ground turkey, ham or bacon.
Tidbits of History
In the year 606 BC the biblical prophet Daniel and his three friends were among the young Jewish nobility to be taken into captivity in Babylon. Daniel had committed his life to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, so when offered the King’s food, which had been dedicated to Babylonian gods and not prepared under strict Jewish standards, Daniel refused to eat it. Instead, he asked hat he and his Hebrew companions be fed only pulse (food grown from seed) and drink only water. The steward in charge of their care reluctantly agreed to allow this change for 10 days and then test the health of the four young men. The men went on to lead lives of unwavering trust in their God and of high integrity to all. They were promoted to high rankings in the government, overcame many challenges and served as impeccable models for the life one can have when they submit their will to the will of the Most High God. Today, hundreds of Christians throughout the world use the Daniel Fast as a method for spiritual fasting. The fast is modeled after the fasting experiences of the prophet as recorded in Daniel 1 and Daniel 10 along with typical Jewish fasting principles.

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. Daniel 1:12
In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. Daniel 10:2-3
The Daniel Fast is a partial fast practiced by millions of Christians around the world. The definition of a biblical fast is to restrict some or all food for a spiritual purpose.
